Installation in public space, Neuwerder, Havelland, 2025
Along Kastanienweg in Neuwerder, 23 flags mark a series of images in public space. Each banner shows a close-up photograph of a detail from the surroundings of the respective lantern. Overlaid on this is a coloured area in the exact shape of the photographed object. The colour value is taken from the respective motif.
The images are complemented by lines from a text by Gertrude Stein. Her language – rhythmic, self-determined – meets the visual principle of superimposition here. Both levels, image and text, operate independently and at the same time in relation to each other – beyond linear narrative or clear weighting.
königsweg. thus unfolds as a sequence of visual and linguistic settings that do not refer to a goal, but to seeing itself. The title – a term for the supposedly best solution – is recoded here: as a series of fragmented, interwoven moments that offer no resolution. The language, rhythmic and self-generating, meets the image on equal terms: both operate without a reference system outside themselves.
königsweg. is conceptually related to the work SHIFT (2021), which was realised a few metres away in a small robinia forest. While that work employed directional axes and optical refraction, this work unfolds as a deep structure in which perception, language and abstraction intertwine.
